Three Ways to Write a Book

Posted on April 15, 2021

Always dreamed of writing a book? What’s stopping you? Yourself!

According to podcastBestseller, around 80% of Americans have wanted to write and publish a book at some point, but fewer than 0.1% have actually done it.

In this post, I share three ways that you can use to turn your dreams of writing a book into reality.

Let me know what you think, and add your tips to the list at @marylebonepublishing

WRITE IT!

Stop talking about it to anyone and everyone. Stop procrastinating. Put pen to paper and start writing down words, any words. Once you get into a flow, the rest will inevitably come.

Break it down

If the thought of writing a whole book is overwhelming, take a step back. Pause and break the book down into chapters, and then sections. Write a section at a time, bit by bit.

Build an outline of each section and then each chapter. Flesh that out into a complete outline. Add more to this to create an initial draft, and so on.

I guarantee that none of the books you see in Waterstones or the like, were written by ‘writing a book’. It is impossible. Take it one section at a time.

You will find your own way to break it down into manageable chunks, and set goals and a schedule to complete each section.

Get feedback

Of course, we’re protective of our work. And a bit shy sometimes. But don’t forget that feedback is a gift. Other people give new perspectives on your work, they may spot things you’ve missed or open up new avenues for you to explore.

Ask for feedback from other writers, marketers, people in publishing, people with the same characteristics as your characters each will add value in their own way.

Ultimately, the only way that you can write a book is to actually write it! Add your tips to the list @marylebonepublishing.
